YOUR
REASON FOR JOINING CAN BE LISTED HERE!!
HM 1 "Freddy" Galla US Navy
Date: 16-Jul-2009
REASON: I consider it an Honor to serve as your "Doc"! First active with
the Marines in the early 70's. and now winding down in the Reserves with
CART ( Cargo Ammo Replenishment Team ) out of NWS Earle NJ. I Got Out ...
Got in ... Got Out and Got In Again!!! Looking forward to Activate
one-last-time before I retire. . ><> God Bless You Guys <>< THANKS
PS3, Desmond Oppong, USN Active
Date: 19-Dec-2007
REASON: My life was in the slow lane...5 mph, and everyone was passing me
by. I needed some acceleration so I joined. Now I am a US citizen and would
be going back to college to complete my degree in IT...WOW!
Seaman Recruit Martinez, U.S Navy
Date: 05-Mar-2007
REASON: I enlisted in the Navy to serve my country and to prepare
myself for life in the future. I'm very proud of what I did and I wish the
best for other new recruits and I hope I have the time of my life.
Justin Martinez, Active Duty Navy
Date: 28-Feb-2007
REASON: I joined to help my country in this war against iraq and to become a
Navy SEAL someday
SK3 Aaron Austin, USNR
Date: 15-Feb-2007
REASON: The why I joined was because I just wanted to do the right thing and
show support for my troops and country after the 911 attack. And what better
way to do that then to actually sign up? So I did just that on 29/OCT/2004.
I swore into the USNR in the APG program and I have enjoyed it every since.
I also plan on going FTS soon. The only regrets that I have is that I
should've join sooner Because the military is an exciting life.
MA3 Siemasz US. Navy
Date: 24-Jan-2007
REASON: It took me along time to figure out why I really joined the
Navy. Almost 3years. I figure the Navy was the best thing I ever did for
myself. I was able to go and start my own life and explore what the world
really had to offer. I was able to receive job training and have school paid
for.. so why i joined was to get out on my own and have the navy give me the
tools I need to succeed in life. and have plenty of stories to tell later
on...
Seaman Recruit Yeoman, U.S. Navy
Date: 08-Jan-2007
REASON: I joined the navy basically to get out of Oklahoma and to
see the world. I enjoy traveling so I figured it would do it. Also our
country is in so much right now that I think that we need more people
willing to stand up for what is right in other countries so that is why I
joined the NAVY.
CS2(SS) Randall McAllister, Active Navy
Date: 22-Oct-2006
REASON: I joined the military to get out of a small town and do something
with my life. My life was headed straight to McDonalds for the next 20-30
yrs of my life and I did not want that. I came in and am having the best
time of my life.
AMAN Charles Bates, USN
Date: 13-Dec-2006
REASON: I've Always loved jets. I also love the ocean. But no other job that
I could think of was going to give me the satisfaction of the things I
adored as a child. I also wanted to serve my country. So many people in this
country want to keep the freedoms that we enjoy, but few want to work for
them. I feel that I am forming the person that I am going to be for the rest
of my life, and earning the right to call myself an American. I haven't
regretted my decision to join yet.
NC1 Douglas Willliams, Active Navy
Date: 02-Dec-2006
REASON: I joined because I wanted to travel while I was still young. I saw a
lot of my friends that graduated before me going off to college and then
they either got kicked out or dropped out of school so I was like that's not
going to happen to me. Plus my dad was in the Navy and my brother was in at
the time.
MA3 DEHART/USN
Date: Thursday September 07, 2006
REASON: FOR SCHOOL AND TRAVEL PURPOSES.
SKC(SW/AW) Tony Kunen
Date: 06-Sep-2006
Three reasons:
1. To Serve as my father and grandfather did.
2. To make a difference in the world.
3. and to get out of New Jersey!
I am very proud of the spirit and dedication the younger generation displays
today - I am proud to serve alongside you.
FN McCuan, USN
Date: 23-Aug-2006
REASON: I joined to serve my country or course. I also joined because I
didn't want to live with the regret of not doing something I've always
wanted to do. I guess I joined for the first overall experience.
SN (SW) Justin Fuertes
Date: Monday August 07, 2006
REASON: The military brings you up in life. I messed up when I was in high
school...having a bad record really doesn't help. so there was no chance of
me getting financial aid for college. so the military was the best choice
for me. I am still an undesignated seaman now. and everybody knows that this
is about the hardest route in the navy. But soon I'll be leaving for AD "a"
school in about a month. and I've been doing a lot of online courses the
very second I got to my command. so the next time you start hearing the
speech of us having the greatest benefits in the world!! just think about it
medical, dental and education is just a start!
IT2 LeNoir USNR
Date: Sunday July 16, 2006
REASON: I had been out of the Navy for 10 years and rejoined in 04 because
there is no better support I could give our troops than by putting the
uniform back on. (July-Nov 04 Camp Victory, Baghdad)
HM3 West , Navy
Date: Wednesday July 12, 2006
REASON: The main reason that I joined the navy reserve is because I felt
like life was passing me by with no purpose. So I joined the Navy. After
that I went to an 8 week boot camp, and a 14 week corpsman school I came
back home and let the navy pay for my college now that I am out of college I
look back and realize that 8 weeks of boot camp, 14 weeks of schooling, one
week end a month, and a two week training duty once a year is well worth a
college degree, veterans benefits, life insurance, and a life time of
stories. I am happy to have joined the navy and I am very proud of my
purpose in the navy today.
HM3 Zhu, USN
Date: Thursday July 06, 2006
REASON: The reason I joined the navy is because that I want to help people
Robert McPherson, Navy Reserve
Date: Saturday June 24, 2006
REASON: To protect those who cannot do it themselves. Those in the US and
abroad as well.
PS2 Dossett/USN
Date: Wednesday June 14, 2006
REASON: I joined for my kids. I was 28yrs old and found that no matter how
hard I worked I was still not giving my kids the life that they deserved. I
loved them more than myself but I worked all day and never made ends meet or
had enough time to spend with them. Now I have been in almost five years and
the Navy has totally changed my life. I have money all the time and even
though the ships kept me separated from the kids they now look at me with
pride, for what I do for my country.
BU3 Chuck dePuy
Date: Monday June 12, 2006
REASON: I originally joined in 1981 as part of a family tradition. After a
17 year absence, reenlisted in 2006 because I missed the military family and
the pride in serving our Navy and Country.
Miss Elizabeth Ory/ U.S. Navy
Date: Sunday June 11, 2006
REASON: I joined to serve my country to the best of my ability trying to do
so with 110% of my efforts.
HM3 Victoria Swingler, USN
Date: 31-May-2006
REASON: Unlike some, the Navy wasn't my only option after high school. I had
turned 17, and 11 days later I was driving to MEPS. Ironically, that day was
September 11, 2001. We had gotten to the gate, and we were turned around, as
I was still a civilian. I had to wait another two weeks. I spent 9 months in
DEP, and left only 3 days after I graduated high school. I still can't tell
you what pushed me over to become a Navy Sailor. Maybe it was the
discipline, or the life style. But I do know, that everyday I am able to put
my uniform on, and I know the tremendous pride my family and friends have in
me, and the pride I have in myself. Now, I am getting ready to re-enlist and
PCS's for the 4th time, and I don't know why I joined, but I do know why I
stayed. HONOR COURAGE COMMITMENT. GO NAVY.
HM3(FMF) MATA JOSE
Date: 26-May-2006
REASON: I joined to make a difference after 9/11 now I'am with 1st mar div
3rd LAR & on my 2nd time in IRAQ & love my job I'll be in the NAVY until I
make Master Chief.
SK1 Neis, USNR
Date: Sunday May 21, 2006
REASON: As a teenager I grew up in foster care. I had no family and no
chance of going to college. I wanted to be a part of something bigger. I
wanted to be someone. I Knew the military would educate me and teach me a
worthy skill. I've been in the military for 20 years and I know no other way
of life.
HM2 Thorpe, Robert
Date: Tuesday May 16, 2006
REASON: I joined the Navy to be apart of something bigger than myself. I
wanted to know I MATTER. Yes, the opportunity to travel and go to school
was/is a great asset but the main goal of my joining was to matter as a
person not a cubicle number.
NC1 Tom LaCamp
Date: 08-May-2006
REASON: I joined to get as far from Kansas as I could! That was over 20
years ago and I will be retiring this September. For those of you that are
going to go all the way, the last half just flies by!
CTT1(SW)Klinginsmith, James R. USN
Date: Monday May 01, 2006
REASON: I joined for three reasons really, first, the Patriot in me was
stirred up after Desert Shield and Desert Storm, second, I needed money for
College, and the final reason is because I wanted a steady secure income.
EN2 TORRES USNR
Date: Sunday April 23, 2006

SK2 Ruby C Riley
Date: Sunday April 02, 2006
REASON:
I have always loved the military life, but when 911 happened, I knew I had
to return to duty. My family has a long military history and each generation
has kept a fighting tradition of service. My son is also in the service
(army) and served in the Iraq war on terrorism just as I am now in Kuwait.

wife and a baby. Now I am on my last term, hopefully will retire in 2011.
CS2 GONZALEZ, NAVY RESERVE
Date: Thursday March 02, 2006
REASON:
I JOINED FOR THE DISCIPLINE AND MEETING NEW AND EXCITING PEOPLE. TRAVEL WAS
ALSO ON MY LIST! MOST OF ALL I NEEDED SOMETHING OTHER THEN MY FULL TIME JOB.
I WANTED EXCITEMENT AND ENERGY IN MY LIFE. JOINING THE NAVY WAS THE BEST I
COULD HAVE DONE FOR MYSELF AND WOULD DO IT AGAIN IF I HAD TO DO OVER. I
THINK EVERYONE JUST OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL SHOULD DO AT LEAST 2 YEARS IN THE
ARMED FORCES. IF YOU DON'T HAVE COLLEGE YOU HAVE WORK! THE MILITARY THOUGHT
ME HONOR, COURAGE, AND COMMITMENT IN EVERYTHING I DO. IM NOT SAYING YOU
CAN'T LEARN THIS OUT IN THE WORLD, BUT WOW, LOOK AT ALL THE OPPORTUNITIES TO
LEARN NEW LANGUAGES. MEET PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE. AND YES EVEN GET
PAID TO DO IT:) I PROUD TO SERVE AS A PO2 IN THE NAVY RESERVES!!
UT3 Casto, USNR

REASON:
Family heritage; my grand parents where both navy , and my father was in
also.
AMAN Jared Persichitte, Navy
Date: Tuesday February 21, 2006
REASON:
I was going to go to a technical college and things fell through and my
parents came to me with the proposal of buying me a new dragster (racecar)
if I joined any branch, so I was down and joined the navy. Now I get to
drive my racecar once a year, oh well it's a good experience!
CS3 John Curtis USN
Date: Friday February 17, 2006
REASON:
I joined for the following reasons . I wanted to better myself, improve
myself and to step out of my comfort zone. For so long I took things for
granted and now I'm part something huge. I'm the 4th person in my family to
be part of the Navy.
NC1(AW) SHANNON PARSONS, USN
Date: Tuesday February 14, 2006
REASON:
"JUST CARRYING ON A FAMILY TRADITION"
I JOINED THE NAVY IN 1998 AS A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR, BY FAR THE BEST DECISION
I COULD OF EVER MADE. I LOVE THE NAVY AND PLAN TO STAY IN AS LONG AS
POSSIBLE, AND NOW I AM A NC(CRF) SO I CAN GIVE OTHERS THE GREAT OPPORTUNITY
I HAVE HAD.
YN2 Adam Gunn, USN
Date: Tuesday February 14, 2006
REASON:
For the college money!
IT2 (SW) Watson, Yesenia A., USN
Date: Tuesday January 31, 2006
REASON: I joined the Military b/c I wanted to do something different in my
life. I needed a change and Independence.
NC1 Jeff Lappin, USNR(FTS)
Date: 27-Jan-2006
REASON: I knew I was going to GO military. My first choice was the Air
Force, my ASVAB was not high enough I was told, so I walked out & ran into a
NAVY recruiter. I joined because my father was military and I like
structure, and knowing that I would get paid, free accommodations, medical &
dental & free education, what else did I need, got the car/clothes & home.
Made the right choice...
EN3 Lawrence M Reliford III
Date: Friday January 06, 2006
REASON: I joined so that I could have a better idea what the Navy would be
like when I tried to become an officer. My main reason for service is the
honor. The Honor of protecting something I love, this country, with such
unflinching commitment.
EO1(SCW) Buffy E. Reed, Active USN
Date: 04-Jan-2006
REASON: Joining the Navy was a tough decision since I was married to a
Radioman at the time. In 1994, we were stationed at Yokosuka, Japan, when I
saw something new to me, Navy personnel wearing cammies. After asking my
husband who they were, I became excited about the Seabees and their unique
history. So, I joined for the patriotism, the training, the camaraderie, the
physical challenges, and of course, the travel!
ABE3 Richards, Marilyn USN (Veteran)
Date: 04-Jan-2006
REASON: I decided to join the Navy when my twin sister made the
decision to join before we graduated high school. It made much sense to go
into the military with benefits and receiving a guaranteed paycheck every
two weeks. I wasn't ready for the college life and a stack of student loans
so what better choice than to go into the Navy to travel and see the world,
gain experience, and take advantage of educational benefits. I am glad to
say that it has been the most awesome, once-in-a-lifetime experience for me.
I have so much love and respect for the Navy because of it.
JO1 Doug Mappin
Date: 04-Jan-2006
Reason: I joined the US Navy Reserves when I was 36 years old. I had
wanted to
join ever since I was a teen, but somehow just never quite got around to it.
As I approached the age where I would be too old, I decided it was now or
never. My parents, siblings and son fully supported me, as did my friends
(though they thought I was crazy). Looking back, now being in the Navy for
11 years and going strong, I think it is the best thing I ever did in my
life! Wish I had done it sooner.
I am currently a mobilized reservist serving in Kuwait and am proud to be
serving our nation's military.
Respectfully.
MA2 Rosario, Gersom U.S. Navy

into the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Exploring the caves of Gibraltar and
crossing the bridge which connects Africa and Asia while visiting Turkey.
I remember getting admitted into everyone of my dream colleges but having no
money to attend. The military helped me graduate from Berkeley. It also

to service my Country, USA, for any assistance which is required of me.
ENS Steve Nowicki USNR
Date: Thursday September 15, 2005
REASON: Very simple. I was prior Army and had been out a number of years.
After 9/11, I decided to join so maybe I could somehow help to end this war
so someday my son wouldn't ever have to go to war. I would rather it be me

GM3 Nowak, USNR-AD
Date: Saturday September 10, 2005
REASON: My dad retired after 20 years in the USMC, and I am very proud of
him. He discouraged me from being a Marine, saying that it wasn't the place
for a woman, so I thought the next best thing was the Navy. Since I am a
single parent, I couldn't go Active, so I did the next best thing and joined
the Navy Reserve. As it turns out, I was activated in support of Operation

anywhere else. It teaches a level a maturity and excellence not found
anywhere else.
SK1(SW) Raul Legarreta, NAVY Active (Supply
Officer)
Date: 07-Jul-2005
REASON: The reason I joined the navy was because I was very young (17) and
was getting into trouble (gangs). I had no future with the path that I was
going on but I decided to make major changes in my life for the better. I
wanted to travel and learn a good trade. I went to boot camp back in 1984, I
took my GED and didnt go to school my senior year. Upon completion from boot
camp, I went to MM "A" school in Great Lakes but I decided that wasnt what I
was cut out to do so I dropped my school and went to the USS New Orleans in
San Diego, I went there as a Fireman. After 2 years onboard, I did my
courses and took the SK3 exam and made it. By the time I was 21 I had made 2
deployments and had visited MANY different countries. In my career, I have
been on 2 ships, I was a recruiter, and have been to 2 reserve center
getting ready to go to my 3rd reserve center (Moreno Valley, CA). I have 1
more tour before I retire. My overall Navy experience, I have really enjoyed
my career path that I chose.
ET2 (SW) Chris Cooper
Date: 07-Jul-2005
REASON: I actually joined twice: in high school, I joined the Army's Split
Option program, where high school juniors join the Reserves to see if they'd
be interested in an acrive-duty career. At the time, three things came to
mind: I'm not going to college, so I might as well do something with my
life; wow, those clothes are really cool and if I join, I get them for free;
you mean I can kill somebody and get away with it?
Even as a reservist, I spent a good deal of time on
active duty: so much, in fact, that of 3 years in the Reserves, 2.5 count
toward my retirement. You'll read more about skeletons further down the
page, but suffice to say I didn't have the focus required to meet my goals.
I got bumped from SELRES to IRR.
When I joined the Navy a whole 9 months later (and
only because it took 9 months of paperwork to get in) my motivations were
different: I got accustomed to a certain way of life, and that way of life
doesn't quite fit the day-to-day life of a 19-year-old fast-food worker. My
pay was garbage, and even the people I worked for didn't have very high
standards of quality (I was actually getting bawled out for trying to raise
standards - they said I was too bossy).
Those are my reasons, but here's a reason for anyone
considering joining: if pride in service is not reason enough, consider the
fact that military service is one of the few ways to achieve social
stratification. Where else can you find the sons and daughters of single
moms who worked 4 part-time jobs to keep the lights on working with the
children of 8-figure executives? Regardless of how long you stay in, you now
have on your resume an indication of pride, work ethic, personal standards,
and commitment. No matter where you came from, you can now walk into a job

REASON: As of course everyone else was; I felt deeply effected by the
events of 9/11.I was a very heavy individual at that time. By heavy I mean
311 lbs. Well the day President Bush declared war on Iraq they showed some
footage on fox news about 9/11. There was an interview with the wife of a
guy who died in Tower 2 who was my age with 2 sons that were my son's ages
and it really hit home. That this was an average Joe like you and me that
was murdered for no reason. So I became angry-lost 121lbs. and joined to
serve my country and hope I can help prevent this from happening again.
Also, with my weight loss I now film commercials for Stacker 2 dietary

serve my country. I always knew that I would serve because I come from a
long line of Military men, every son in my family joined at 17 or 18 and I
would not and could not break that Tradition. Our Country is so Great that I
can not express it in words. I hope that if some one reads this that it will
spark a flame in their heart that won't quit burning and that can only be
controlled by entering the United States Military. As you Can tell I am very

The navy has allowed me to do just that, and has also given me the

REASON: The military isn't for everyone; I am passionate about the Navy
because it can make me a super woman-practically indestructible in spirit!
But I feel committed to my contributing everything I am able to in order to
work in unison with the world's greatest fighting force. It's not only "what
the Navy can do for me;" it's also, "what can I do for the Navy." The Navy
exhilarates me, inspires me, strengthens me, motivates me more than any
civilian job/career (save for legal) can ever hope to. Yes, there are
handsome benefits....but aside from greedily "taking" what you can without
ever reciprocating would be shallow to say the very least. My reasons for
enlisting are far more intrinsic and solid than just embracing materialism.
The Navy instills values in us, and transforms our beings into individuals
who want to work as a team, support each other and willingly engage in one
of the greatest unsurpassable engagements that embody the very core of what
becomes one of the most valued events "quality of life" aptly named
"camaraderie." I am truly the "real me" when in the service. I am the leader
of leaders and the follower of many. USN is the greatest fighting force on
this globe. Embrace it shipmates; it can make you or break you; or in my
case, make you feel indestructible, encase you with physical stamina and
mental power and stealth. The Navy/Military is what you allow it to become
to you. Treat it with respect and in turn it will reward you handsomely.
Abuse or neglect/ridicule it and you go down mercilessly. If you don't like
it.....Dunkin' Donuts is always hiring;) Peace shipmates.

REASON: An older, motherly woman in my life set me aside one day. She drew a
circle on a piece of a paper. She asked me "Where would you like to be in 5
years compared to where you are now?". I began to tell her all the things
that I wanted. I said "I want a nice reliable car, nothing too fancy".
I was currently driving a 1984 Ford, my first car. I told her that I wanted
to be married to a nice, intelligent, handsome man. I said "I want another
child". At that time I was a single teenage mother with an undependable,
uneducated boyfriend. Among the things that I wanted to have were a
nice house and a career. I specifically stated " I want a career, not just a
job". I wanted to be able to provide for my son and be a respectfully,
productive young woman and a great mother. She placed all of my wants inside
the circle. She then asked me "What do you have now compared to where you
want to be in 5 years?". I told her and of course she helped me realize that
I was more than a little bit away from my desires. Placing all of those
things outside the circle she asked me how was I going to get from outside
the circle to the life I wanted inside of it. I didn't have a clue. She
asked me if I had ever considered the military. "No" I responded.
(No, she wasn't a recruiter)
She then told me of all the benefits: I could join
the military for 4 years, get the G.I. bill for my education, establish a
safe foundation for my son, learn discipline, save for a car, and maybe meet
a good military man meanwhile living in base housing learning how to take
care of a home. Earning the rights to a VA benefits and still get out at the
end of my enlistment before my son started elementary school. "WOW!" We went
to another branches office, but of course I ended up hyped up to come in the
US Navy on the buddy system. (My buddy never joined)(huh). Anyways.
That was 2 cars, 1 loving & fine husband, now 3
beautiful children!, a 4 bedroom home with an acre land, some college
education, a wonderful career and 7 1/2 years earlier. That's why I joined
and only a piece of why I stay!

REASON: I originally joined the military because of the financial benefits.
I grew up in a small town in West Virginia; while I had a loving family and
some wonderful experiences, I knew there was more to life than living in the
hills. What really motivated me was the fact my hometown suffered from a
depressed economy and double digit unemployment. With each attempt, it
seemed finding meaningful employment was more difficult. I originally tried
a stab at the Air Force to become an officer; when that panned out, I was
able to switch over to the Navy.
After clearing some red tape about my past (Who
doesn't have skeletons in his closet?), I was able to ship out to boot camp
at snowy, cold Great Lakes. I finished boot camp and EM "A" school; in
October 1986 I reported to my first ship, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69.
My original goal was to do four years and move on.
When I made EM2 during my first hitch, things changed. I found Christ real
in my life after I joined the service; I spent the next year praying,
fasting, and asking God for His divine wisdom concerning my career. In
October 1989, I made the step of faith and re-enlisted.
After almost 20 years, I have no regrets about
staying in the Navy. In fact, I wish I could stay longer; however, high-year
tenure has caught up with me and I will retire in November of 2005. To
Almighty God and some solid shipmates who stood by me through the prosperous
and lean times, I give thanks!

REASON:
I joined the Navy Reserve in April 2003. The reasons are many... I've wanted
to join since I saw Top Gun in 1987, but chose to attend college instead and
get my degree. Following college, I worked to pay bills, with no
satisfaction, but still maintained that curiosity about the military. Then
happened September 11th. I researched my options in the military, but I was
so deep into work, I didn't go forward with them. The outset of Operation
Iraqi Freedom did it though. I was 36 at the time, and I saw 18 and 19 year
old kids - kids that weren't old enough to drink and haven't lived life -
dying out there. I asked myself what I had done for my country. Aside from
paying my taxes, the answer, sadly, was nothing. I enlisted... So far, it
has been more rewarding than I'd ever imagined. I've made more friends,
learned so many new things and even been awarded Junior Sailor of the
Quarter 2nd, FY04. I love the Navy, and when I am eligible, considering
going FTS. I'm currently working with N6 (Info. Tech.), but assigned to the

had two children and one on the way and I tried every thing that I could do
to get in again, but was turned down by several recruiters and many waivers.
On sep.11, '01 I was working in a chemical plant in Louisiana, less than 1/4
mile from the third largest oil refinery in the U.S.. When we heard the
news, as a group of seasoned construction hands, you would think that we
could have handled it well but as a mater of fact most of the crew had gone
into emotional mush, from crying to hate and anger. We all wanted to just
leave and go home and be with our families and watch the news. I was
thinking about my step son who was in the ARMY as a chem. wep. spec and how
this was going to affect him and his wife and son. When I got home that
evening I told my wife I was going to go back in if I could. After several
recruiters and many many wavers again on April 19, 2002 I swore in at the
Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Baton Rouge. I have since
transferred to an air unit in New Orleans and I would not trade it for all
the money in the world. I am currently trying to go active Navy by way of

REASON: Since I was very young I wanted to serve my country. I have always felt
it was a duty that one had to participate in. Opportunity and timing did not
happen for me until now. In a lot of ways I will be more prepared for the rigors
of Naval life than if I had joined at 18. I also joined for a different kind of
adventure than the average civilian life. This way I get the best of both
worlds. I believe that everyone should serve, not as a requirement necessarily
but as a solemn duty they feel toward this great country and everything it has
to offer. My father served during WWII in the US Navy; maybe it will be the
start of a tradition for generations to come.
GO Navy, GO USA!!

REASON: I missed the military. Decided it was time to get back in and see
what I could do to help improve the state of the world!

REASON: I have been active duty for 3 years and 6 months. And now that I try to
look back and remember exactly what brought me to this NAVY I call mine I don't
even know. The best reason that I can think of was to get away. I wanted
something more than the small-town life that Tennessee had to offer me. I wanted
to see the world and since have seen: IL, MS, TX, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (this is
where I met my wonderful husband and had a beautiful baby girl), CA, Kuwait,
Germany, and currently am stationed in NV at NAS Fallon with my family
(dual-military). The Navy has given me all that I could have expected and so
much more. When this all started I was a bit sad because I left all my friends
back at home but you know something From that very first day at boot camp I have
made a numerous amount of friends and some that I refer to as brothers and
sisters, I have come to live by my life's motto "This is the life and career I
chose Friends come and go, but sisters and brothers are FOREVER"!
To narrow it all down I am a proud USN Sailor!!!

REASON: I joined the Navy Reserves under the NPSAC (NRAC) program almost 2 years
ago. I am an Army Brat, so I had the military in me most of my life, however,
life took a different turn and I never entered the service. At 34, and after my
divorce, I reassessed some priorities and old goals and decided to see if I was
eligible to go into the military. I found out that I was, so I did and have
never regretted it since. I wanted to also show my 3 children that they need to
appreciate the freedoms our forefathers fought and died for and that we should
never lose sight of that gift. Since joining I have recently made SK3 and
received the Blue Jacket Award twice this year. I am looking forward to a
rewarding 18 years if all goes well.

REASON: I joined because it was something I always wanted to do. I put my life
on hold for my family and finally it was time for me. I wanted to be a part of
something that was bigger than cooking or cleaning my house I wanted to serve my
country. I was really scared when I joined and then when I went to boot camp I
was terrified but they brought out things in my that I never thought I could
ever do. it made me strong emotionally and physically and spiritually. I am
stronger then I have ever been in my life and I have such a sense of pride that
surpassed anything I have ever done. for anyone that is considering joining it
is the best investment that anyone could ever do. my motto is and always will be
is. The Pain is Temporary But, The Pride Will Last A Lifetime.

REASON: I joined to set a good example for my three little boys & for my 12yr
old sister. They are what keep me going day by day & I want this country to be a
place where they can always feel safe.

REASON: To follow in the foot steps of my grandfather, who served during WWII, a
man who showed me there is no greater honor than that of serving our country.
YNSN McCall, USNR (TAR)
19-Oct-2003
REASON: I was too young to join the Naval Reserves as a reservist, to tell the
truth I knew I had to go active to make it. One day (sounds corny but true) I
decided to join. I had to go behind my mothers back to talk to a recruiter, but
once she was able to ask her questions, she told me to go for it! I was so
excited, but as the load date came closer, the more scared I got. A lot of
people told me I would never survive boot camp, I told them watch me! I came
from a town of 600 people, I always knew there was more out there, something I
could excel at and make a difference. It has been a long road with lots of
hills, but I will NEVER regret it. It has made me stronger than ever and
allowed me to find my true self. For all those who are undecided, I say go for
it. You have nothing to lose! I think of it as an adventure, one I will never
forget!
OSSN Eric Fernandez, USNR
16-Oct-2003
REASON: I joined because I believe in the Navy as an organization and I believe
in where they are headed. I didn't want to watch the action anymore; now I can
be PART of the action.
SHSN Kristy Nebeker, USNR
12-Oct-2003
REASON: I joined to show three children that this country is great and we need
to defend our freedom.
SMSN Robert Michael Vails, USNR
10-Oct-2003
REASON: I have a responsibility to make sure that my family never looses their
freedom or have to live in fear of terrorism.
